As you probably know by now, Facebook announced that starting at 12:01 a.m. (Eastern) this Saturday (or Friday night, depending on how you measure these things), you can create a personalized URL for your Facebook page.

One concern for big brands is that the same squatters who buy up URLs like TigerWoods.ru and Coke.cz in hopes of selling them back to the real mark holders will do that with Facebook custom URLs, or that people will simply use a trademark as their custom URL because they like it.

Either way, Facebook is ahead of the problem and has established an online form for trademark owners to prevent their marks from being registered as usernames.

The form is simple and short, but requires a you to enter the exact trademark and the trademark registration number, so it will require a couple of minutes of preparation.

If you’re a major brand or the owner of any trademark, you should consider submitting the online form sometime between now and tomorrow night.
